Chicago Bulls Should Target Kenyon Martin in Free Agency

The Chicago Bulls have recently filled their void at guard with the signings of Nate Robinson and Marco Belinelli, but still need too add depth in their frontcourt before training camp arrives. One player they should consider signing is Kenyon Martin.

While they would only be able to offer him the veteran's minimum, Martin would get a chance to play on a team that could win the East if Derrick Rose makes a timely return from injury. It's a slight pay cut from the $2.5 million he earned with the Clippers last season, but he should also get a fair amount of playing time, especially if Carlos Boozer struggles.

While the Bulls are clearly a great defensive team, they will need to be better offensively if they want to win when Derrick Rose is out. Martin has averaged 13 points per game for his career and although he's past his prime, he is certainly better than Nazr Mohammed at scoring the basketball.

Surprisingly, teams have shown little interest in Martin in free agency so far. That's good for the Bulls, who are strapped for cash. With the majority of their budget spent on backcourt players, Chicago left little money to sign free agents for the frontcourt.

With many teams already set for next year, there are few options left for Martin. With Chicago, he will be playing on a competitive team and have a chance at winning the East if everyone is healthy.
